Los Barrios is a town situated in the region of Gibraltar, at 131 kilometres from the capital of the province, Cadiz. The town falls under Algeciras’ legal jurisdiction, at 23 m above sea level and borders the towns of Alcalá de los Gazules, Medina Sidonia, Tarifa, Algeciras, San Roque and Castellar de la Frontera.
The Guadarranque, Guadacorte, Cañas and Palmones Rivers pass through the municipal territory which boasts some twenty thousand inhabitants.

It is located on the "Ruta del Toro" (Bull Route), named as such as a result of the various bull breeding grounds along the route.
>) and the Palmones Rivers, where the Charco Redondo Reservoir has been constructed to work in conjunction with the Guadarranque Reservoir in Castellar, supplying water to the majority of the Gibraltan population.
The Palmones River flows throughout the municipal territory, receiving water from the Guadacorte River and the Garlito, Valdespera, Randal, Bananás, Multa Tunas, Bacalaos and Morenito Brooks. The Guadarranque River serves as a border with San Roque. It includes only one coastal strip situated at the mouth of the Palmones River.
It is classified as Mediterranean or temperate to warm climate category, with warm summers and mild winters. Annual rain levels usually exceed 900 mm./m². Due to its proximity to the Straits of Gibraltar it suffers considerable humidity and is subject to the influence of easterly and westerly winds.
