Introduction to La Línea de la Concepción |
A town with geo-political determinants due to its borders with Gibraltar. It originated from “La Linea de la Contravalacion” or contravallation line erected against Gibraltar (Philip V, 1730-1735). From that point on it boasted a Spanish population and in July 1870 it formed its own Town Council, breaking its link with San Roque, of which it had previously been a part. A few days later the name was altered to La Línea de La Concepción, in honour of the patron of the infantry forces. It is one of the youngest cities in Spain, with slightly more than a century in existence and a population level of 60,951 inhabitants. A colonial development, with straight, aligned streets and a surface area of 26 square kilometres. Location: Coastal, Arco Bay.

Access: two possibilities using the N-340:
-Using the Higuerón road, if coming from the Costa del Sol.
-Using the existent detour level with the San Roque crossroads: El Toril crossroads.
It has a temperate climate, with mild winters and warm summers. The average temperature is 21º C. It enjoys 2965 hours of sun annually, but does not suffer from extreme temperatures, given that air humidity and the influence of the sea serve as regulators.
