  Castellar Geography

Also belonging to what is know as the Complejo del Campo de Gibraltar, its geological structure is made up of young sedimentary rocks that were deposited on the sea bed and subsequently emerged during the Alpine Orogeny.

Lythologically its structure is formed from the so-called Aljibe sandstones, sands and clays.

All of the sierras are concentrated within the western half of the municipal area, with Montecoche rising above the rest at 563m. The other half of the area is home to the dehesas (meadows) of Boyal and Almoraima, used predominantly for livestock.
